Is it possible to provide flash play controls? 1 Year, 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi there,
I might be showing my ignorance here but ...
I have just installed the programme and it worked first time with no hiccups. It embeds the flash onto the page great.

A quick question however. Is it possible to provide a nice interface to allow the user to play, pause, fast forward, change volume, etc. Would that be something SWFContent Pro could do or should I be looking for that from the flash file production software?

As an aside, I am trialing Prism software to make a flash file from a wmv file. (Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 created the wmv file).

Regards

David

Hi,

SWFContent Pro is designed just for embedding flash to Joomla. The insides of the flash, like you mentioned with the play controls, must be programmed in the swf file.

There are lot of flash video players which you can download free or commercial. For example JW Player.

This would be an example how to embed the JW Player, in particular with the following settings:

flashVars: file=yourvideofile&autostart=true
allowfullscreen: true
allowscriptaccess: always

And if you wish you can switch on dynamic rendering. (Create alternative content using standards compliant markup and embed Flash content with unobtrusive JavaScript. Avoids 'click-to-activate' mechanisms in Internet Explorer 6+ and Opera 9+. The embedding of Flash content relies on JavaScript. If you switch Javascript off, only the alternative content will be displayed.)

Hope this helps you further.

Kind regards,

Milton

Hello Milton,

The past weekend I have send you a mail directly.
Yesterday evening I have downloaded the plugin. I have downloaded the JWMediaPlayer as well.

Now I try to embed a swf file in article. That's not a problem. And if I click on it with the right-mouse button I see a kind of menu with stop/playing etc. But this is not what I want.

But the next configuration items:
flashVars: file=/images/cars/cars.swf&autostart=true
allowfullscreen: true
allowscriptaccess: always

is enough to get the swf file played in Joomla article within the JWMediaPlayer?
But how does Joomla know that the JWMediaPlayer must be used to get the swf file playing? Or must the item "player=JWMediaPlayer" be added for example at the flashvars?

I hope that there is a good example how to embed a Media player (like JWMediaPlayer) for a swf (flv) file, with content pro in a joomla article.

Nico

Hi,

Give me a few days and I will add support for the JW-Media-Player to SWFContent Pro.

In the meantime you can select the player.swf in the SWFContent Pro file browser and then add the settings (flashVars etc.).

If it's not loading you might have to change the base setting.

Hello Milton,

Thank you, that would be great. I understand then I have to download a new version of content pro.

It's maybe more my problem that I not understand how it works, but the player.swf is a player without controls? Or what is player.swf? Is that the standard player of Joomla/

And what do you mean by: "If it's not loading you might have to change the base setting." So as I wrote my swf is playing but without any controls like you have on youtube (start, stop/pause, loading/playing progress bar etc.)

Do you have any documentation/example how I can embed a player?

player.swf is the flash file of JW Media Player. This is the flash file which shows the video(s) with the controls. You can download mediaplayer-viral.zip containing player.swf here. Unzip the package and upload (if you want with SWFContent Pro) the player.swf file (from the zip) to your server. Then you can select it in SWFContent Pro. And change the settings:

allowfullscreen: true
allowscriptaccess: true
Flashvars: file=video.mp4&image=preview.jpg

The base setting you can set to the path where the mp4 and the preview image is, for example "images/videos" if the video.mp4 is in the directory pathtojoomla/images/videos.

I didn't have time to test this. Please post if this was successful.
